A TREE, A RIVER, A ROCK

April 28, 2019 Brad Peebler

A TREE, A RIVER, A ROCK

A tree, a river, a rock

I smell the scent of magic sweet with joy

But your mouth is a fountain gushing words

Armed with the bitter taste of anger and sharp grief

When our friendship was wilder than the wind

Unharnessed and free

Free to run away, away from me, no hope left in its path

Our shadow was only a flicker, restless and alive

When you left only a whisper in your path

Only breath and you were gone

The trees morphed into buildings

The rivers into roads

And the rocks into cars

I only wanted to be a friend

But the magic disappeared before my eyes

I did not know where you went

But I will follow you in solitude

A heavy heart to drag behind me

And far ahead a friendship to chase

LET OTHERS KNOW
