UNITED NATIONS ENGAGEMENTS
ELEVATING YOUTH AS LEADERS IN GLOBAL DECISION-MAKING
Heirs To Our Ocean is committed to ensuring that youth, as key stakeholders in our planet’s future, are not just present but actively shaping global decision-making. We collaborate with young leaders from diverse backgrounds to drive solutions for pressing challenges, ensuring their voices are heard at the highest levels. Through our engagements with the United Nations, we empower the next generation to step into meaningful leadership, take action, innovate, and build a more just and sustainable future for all who share our Blue Planet.
HOW WE ENGAGE WITH THE UNITED NATIONS

UN Ocean Decade
Heirs To Our Ocean is a Decade Implementation Partner of IOC/UNESCO’s UN Ocean Decade. Aligning with the Ocean Decade was a natural step as we work toward restoring our shared one-water system.
Our key contributions include:
Forming and supporting the U.S. Youth Action Council for UN Ocean Decade
Developing a toolkit to support UN Member States in forming Youth Action Councils in their countries
Forming and supporting the Youth Inclusion Expert Working Group for the UN Ocean Decade

Heirs To Our Ocean supports youth participation in the Children’s Advisory Team of Child Rights Connect, where Global Youth Leaders Raina and Catarina helped advance the right to free pre-primary and secondary education, contributing to the development of a new optional protocol. Through this engagement, they also engaged in global advocacy efforts, including a Vatican climate conference, a UN Special Rapporteur consultation, and the Aarhus Convention Task Force Meeting, amplifying youth voices in climate and ocean governance.
